If you’re brushing your teeth four to five times per day and maintaining your daily flossing routine during your orthodontic treatment, Dr. Varghese and our smile squad think that is AMAZING! We want you to keep up the great work! Keep in mind that it’s just as important for you to visit your general dentist (DDS) every six months, as recommended, in addition to daily brushing and flossing.
Remember: Don’t forget to keep your regular visits with us to keep your treatment on track and on time ☺
Having to visit the dentist every six months while undergoing orthodontist treatment is of utmost importance. Dental check-ups are crucial for maintaining optimal oral health. Your general dentist can check for problems that might not be seen or felt, detect cavities and early signs of tooth decay, as well as catch and treat oral health problems early. During an oral exam, your dentist examines the overall health of your mouth, teeth, gums, cheeks, and tongue. Even with the most diligent daily brushers and flossers, there will still be areas of plaque build-up. Over time the plaque becomes more difficult to remove and solidifies into turning into tartar, making it difficult to be removed. Check-ups will also include thorough teeth cleaning and polishing by a Dental Hygienist (RDH). Another reason for routine dental checkups is for x-ray images taken at your dentist’s office. These x-rays will all allow them to see what is happening beneath the surfaces of your mouth, and can find and diagnose issues that may be invisible to the naked eye.
At Varghese Orthodontics we monitor our patients’ oral hygiene and let our patients know if more brushing and flossing is needed! We may also advise more frequent visits to your general dentist for optimal oral health.
If you have not been to the dentist in the last six months, please let us know during your next adjustment visit, as we can provide a few great references in the North Aurora and Huntley areas!
If you have changed your general dentist (DDS) since your last visit, please talk to Gigi, Jori, or Lindsey so we can update your information. This way, Dr. Varghese can keep dentists updated on your progress throughout treatment.
